Kimberlin's Water Taxi Inc. was started by Brad Kimberlin in 1986 as a small fishing business operating out of Valdez, Alaska. Brad had moved to Alaska with his parents when he was a boy, and fell in love with the ocean. Determined to eventually have a business working on the water, and to help finance it, Brad spent those early years working in the winter as a pipe-fitter on the oil fields of the North Slope. With the money he saved, he bought a 32' vessel, the Shane-D, and started taking out halibut charters in the summer The young Kimberlin boys also helped in the business, being some of the youngest deckhands in Valdez. Their summers were spent working with their dad, filleting fish, cleaning boats, and learning boat handling; eventually getting licensed as captains themselves.
By 2000, working in the charter boat industry was becoming more difficult. With declining fish stocks and tighter regulations in the fishing industry, Brad decided to move his company in a different direction. Seeing a need in Prince William Sound for water transportation that was reliable, safe, and economical, Kimberlin's Water Taxi, Inc. was born. The company purchased it's first landing craft in 2001, and began making trips to the villages, transporting people, and hauling freight year round. Our services soon expanded in the Sound to include remote site demobilization, vessel salvage, oil spill response, film crew support, and resource vessels for seismic activity. All four vessels are currently docked in Valdez and working in the Prince William Sound area.
Today, we look a little bit different than when we first began, but the goal of our company hasn't changed. We still want to provide superior services and competitive prices to our clients, while protecting the health, and safety of our employees. We strive to accomplish this by having personnel that are experienced, skilled, and properly trained in all aspects of marine/land operations, safety procedures, and environmental regulations. Our employees participate in monthly drills and attend yearly training in oil spill response and prevention.
